Course Title: Psychology of Consciousness
Type of Course: Elective
Description of activity: (200 words or less)
The objective of the course is to examine role of consciousness in the self-management of behaviors and spiritual growth. Specifically, metaphysical awareness and mystical union are compared and contrasted.
Example:
Key Concepts:
Defining and exploring the metaphysical domain: Mind, mental capacities, sensory encoding, perceptual processing, memory storage processing, retrieval of information and imagery from memory, emotional responses, belief systems, internal dialog (self-statements or thoughts), conscious decision making, and many others. Also included are:
Meta-cognition: thinking about thinking
Meta-attention: attending to attending
Meta-awareness: awareness of awareness
Mystical Domain:
Is the mystical subjectively different from the above metaphysical processes?
If so, how is it different?
Thought Experiment: Did You Eat of the Tree of Bi-polar Pears (Pairs)?
Examine bipolar dimensions as they relate to one of your personal goals, personal beliefs, or social relationships. Bring to your attention and awareness nonproductive or destructive emotional behaviors for this task. A bipolar dimension that correlates with strong, seemingly uncontrollable emotions will teach you the most in this activity. Try these examples:
1. The love/ hate bipolar dimension
Ask yourself: What/Who do you love?
Ask yourself: What/Who do you hate?
2. The good/ evil bipolar dimension
Ask yourself: What/Who good do you see around you?
Ask yourself: What/Who evil do you see around you?
3. The create/ destroy dimension
Ask yourself: How/what do you create in your inside (metaphysical) and outside (social and physical) environments?
Ask yourself: How/what do you destroy in your inside (metaphysical) and outside (social and physical) environments?
